General description of the free-standing pier
Free-standing pier framed with vertical timber elements that have been restored. It is located between Rooms XXVIII, XXIV and XV. To the NE and SW of it, there are a grand-opening and a door-opening respectively facilitating the circulation to and from the Ceremonial Hall (Room XXVIII) in the West Wing of the palace. In total, five vertical timber elements are preserved (one at each corner of the pier and one at the SE side). Another imprint at the SW side of the pier, in from of a plank, measuring 0.07 (NW-SE) x 0.021 (NE-SW) x 0.85 m., has been restored but this has not been recorded in the excavation reports and notebooks nor is captured in the general plan of the palace (published in 1974). The current appearance of the pier is the result of restoration.
