General description of the space
The Room XXIII, centrally located in the West Wing, was identified by Nikolaos Platon as the "central sanctuary" of the palace. According to the excavator, it is a small room that has the typical arrangement of the so-called "bench sanctuaries" at Knossos. The bench in Room XIII is inside a niche at the southern wall of the room. Another bench is located opposite the first one at NW corner of the room.
